Party at the Tellmansion!

Aug 31, 2009

So, I have to apologize for being so quiet for so long. I’ve been traveling for what seems like forever! I just got back from Vermont last night, where the Overcome Everything team was raising a ruckus. It was some of the best fun I’ve had in a long, long time.

On Friday night, we had a barbecue at the Tellmansion with lots of good food, good friends, and it was kind of getting acquainted with the folks we never met face-to-face, and hug and enjoy the people we know but haven’t seen in a while.  I hadn’t seen Brian Edmondson since last June, for example, and it’s always great to see my virtual good friend!

On Saturday, things got even better! We went to a gym where we participated in all of these cool team building activities. For example, the facilitators set out a bunch of pictures on the floor, face down. Each of us were to pick one and not show it to anyone else. Some of us got to have two pictures because there were so many.

Each of us had to describe the picture to the rest of the team, and we had to come up with a sequence of pictures that made sense.  However, it was one of those zoom out sequences, and we nailed it. Wow! It’s much harder than you might think. If someone doesn’t point out even a small detail, it makes a HUGE difference.

But the most fun thing was when they put most of us into harnesses (some folks couldn’t handle the height), the team pulled a rope to raise one of the “harnessees” up about 40 feet (to the top of the gym rafters), and then the person would pull a rip cord, and just go” flying through the air on this really sturdy “swing”!  (It held up to 5K pounds, so we were quite safe.)  Wow… I can’t tell you how big a rush that was! We got some pretty cool video from that, and Danny is working on a montage to show what happened. I can’t wait to post it here. :-)

After a long day of adult “birthday partyesque” games, designed to encourage bonding and teamwork, we crashed in our hotel for a while. Having that much fun is totally exhausting! Ha!

The “team” stuff sounds really boring, right? And I can tell you, I had no idea what would happen that day. I mean, doesn’t it sound corporate and stuffy weird?  Not at all! It’s amazing how much fun stuff like that can be. The company was High 5 Adventure Learning and the facilitators, Jim and Chris were just amazing. I think they could make anything fun.

On Saturday evening, we had a wonderful dinner at Alici’s Bistro, and took over the whole Martini Bar for the evening. Wow… Great food, if you’re ever in Brattleboro, and the folks there couldn’t have been nicer. They put up with us.

So, it was a tremendous weekend, but after all that’s happened over the past few weeks, I’m ready to stay home and get back to biz! Hope you’ll stick around because I have some very cool and helpful info coming your way.

But then, you knew that, right? :)
