$7 Script Continuing Misery

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Grr…

Now, I’ve employed my friend Brian Edmondson (15Kin7Days.com) in my misery. Guess what? He’s swearing now, too.

Ain’t that peachy?

OK…

Brian reinstalled the script. I had done it right, but well, two heads and all…

Nada.

Nobody seems to be able to figure it out. Is it PayPal that has a glitch? Is there some setting I messed with that I shouldn’t have there? What’s stopping me?

Oh, I gave up today. Just sent my list a free copy and a special offer. If you’re not on my list, get on it by midnight and you’ll get the really, really great deal, too.

Check the upper right-hand corner of the blog, and don’t forget to confirm. You’ll be happy you did. The sale is only lasting for 72 hours and then, bye-bye!

But here’s the thing… If you don’t sign up for my list right now, you won’t get the email that’s being sent at midnight tonight.

Quick! Like a bunny! Sign up for my list!

$7 Script Hell

Have you ever been in $7 script hell? I mean, I know I’ve done something wrong because it just doesn’t want to do what I want it to do, which is frickin’ WORK!!!

I’ve posted at the forum. It’s Sunday.

I IM’d my friends. It’s Sunday.

I called a friend and he changed his cell phone number, so I had a short chat with a complete stranger.

<Sigh> I guess I’ll just have to wait until tomorrow. That totally gnarles me. I wanted to have this up and running by tonight. It’s a really great report with a backend offer that’s a real bargain and makes total sense and I even sweetened the $7 price with some surprise software included in the report. It rocks! But you’ll have to wait until tomorrow because…

Though I know it’s installed properly. (I even bought a video, after the fact, to be sure I did it right. Yep.)

But at 55 seconds and counting down from getting PayPal to write to ipn.txt, it just hangs. Not a permissions issue.

If you have dealt with this problem and have any suggestions, I’d forever be in your debt.

Anyone? This is a plea for my sanity.

Come on, help a fellow IMer out.

Before she eats her monitor.

BlogaramaMama

The Secret wants you to follow your passions and to be positive, to just know what you want will happen. Of course, you have to take action to make those things happen, but that’s what you need to think about. Where can you lend your expertise and make something really, really cool that people will love and that you’ll feel really good about doing? That should be your business. Stay out of the IM niche, unless you’re prepared for some really hard competition. I’m sorry I didn’t stick to writing all those years ago when I set up my first website (www.patmarcello.com) in 1998.

But you get all caught up in the glitz and promise and hype and drama and it’s just plain fun! At least it was for me.

But here I am in the IM niche. Don’t be crazy like me!

Howevah, I love decided to marry two things that I love… Internet marketing and writing.

Blogging rules. And why rules for me is because I can write anything I want to write, any way that I want to write it and bingo! It’s up and running. No editors to please. Only you.

That’s great. But I love messing with blog guts and such, too. Customization and upgrading and such are fun for me, too. So, I’ve decided to offer something pretty cool, very soon…

Stay posted.

Sell Links… Lose Page Rank? Maybe.

So, I’m over at Danny Sullivan’s blog reading about how Google is dropping pages’ PR when they have paid links on them. Hmm…

If you notice, I have one link right now, and when that goes, I’m probably going to stop selling links on this blog. But it’s only a matter of time before all paid links will be bye-bye. People will stop buying them, so sellers won’t have to worry about having them on their pages. Google is penalizing sites for paid links.

But it seems that it’s arbitrary. My little blog isn’t going to be noticed (well, except that I’m waving a bright red flag here), but if there’s a big website that’s blatantly selling links the proof that they’re issuing penalties is available.

Really, if you’re buying or selling links, you should check this post out:

http://searchengineland.com/071007-173841.php

Hmm… wonder what will happen over at Text Link Ads as far as PR goes. They’re still a PR7. Time will tell, eh?

Last year, it was ALL about the linking. Ah, the ever-changing world of SEO.

I love it!

To All My New Friends

So, I’m doing consultations for Overcome Everything. (Want one? You can go to http://listbuildingpower.net and get one, plus a month in Tellman’s ListBuilding Club and a free consultation with me or one of the other consultants. We’ve all had IM businesses and lots of experience.) Anyway, I really love working for that company because we’re about helping people there. But that’s just how it is. The more people we help, the better our company will be. Simple? Yep.

So, I’m loving it. I’m helping people to find their passions (niches), helping them to improve their SEO, to just do some very simple things that will improve their businesses. That feels really, really good.

And then, there are those folks that you just can’t help. They’re in too deep and off the edge and they’re not getting anywhere. It sucks because what I’m finding is that people are spending tons and tons of money online, and most of it for junk stuff that won’t help them make money, only empty their wallets. Breaks my heart.

Tellman always says it’s not about the money, which I find to be very, very cool. I know a lot of people would shake their heads and say, “Oh, sure. He’s got his, but when will I get mine? It is ALL about the money.” Well, here’s something I’ve learned…

If you’re only in it for the money, and you’re so anxious to make it, and you listen to every jerk selling bullsh*t programs, you’re going to fail. You’re going to fail miserably. Sorry. I’ve seen it happen over and over and over again, and I talk to a lot of people.

So, if you’re new at this, don’t spend any money–NONE! Until you know who the players are, who the people you can trust are. Then, make educated decisions. Just because someone has a product, doesn’t make them honest and kind. That’s to say nothing of the product.

Caveat Emptor… Beware, beware, beware.

Learn a little first because there are some really great teachers out there who WILL put you on the right path. You’ll be so glad you did.

Do you know how to check keyword density?

I realize that a lot of people don’t even know what keyword density is, so let me explain. If you wrote 100 words, and two of them were your keywords, you’d have a keyword density of 2%. That’s right about where you should be for Google. The other search engines have a higher threshold, but we all know that Google is the mark so optimizing for Google is the smart way to go.

There are sites where you can check the density of your website, after it’s already online, and they have their purpose. But what about articles? How do you check keyword density there?

I struggled with that a bit before finding an awesome solution.

Go to http://live-keyword-analysis.com and plug in what you’ve written. Then, plug in the keyword(s) that you’ve optimized the article for. Bingo! Instant density check for up to three keywords.

Once you know that it’s easy to adjust. You can add some keywords if you’re short (less than about a 1.8% density) or substitute some synonyms for your keywords if your density is too heavy (more than about 2.2%). Simple.

Just be sure that when you’re plugging in and substituting that your article reads naturally. Read it aloud to yourself and you’ll be able to see if it will “sound” right to the human ear. That’s what you want–always. It makes Google happier, but even more importantly, it impresses your readers.

Media Follows Britney; I’ll Follow You

So, I’m watching this Jason Henderson video today and he’s talking about the plug-ins for turning the no-follow links back on in your WordPress blog, right? And I’m thinking to myself, Hmm… I could really get into doing that. I’d heard you could do it, but it was one of those things that you think is great, and then, never get around to doing, right? Well, thanks to Jason, I did it today.

And that’s good for you because… Here’s the deal…

If you come and post quality comments on my blog (meaning meaty), I will allow the search engines to follow the links. Crappy comments are just going to be deleted anyway, and Akismet does a really good job with the spam. So, as of today, links are back, people!

I encourage you to suck all the SEO goodness you can out of them, too.

Just don’t spam me. The blog is moderated, and I’ll just nuke you into oblivion anyway.

Go do something more productive.

Inventory.Overture.com Is So Over

We all knew it was over, but we kept using it anyway. Overture was a good keyword generation tool for gathering keywords on the fly, but it was kind of simple. However, since January, that tool hasn’t updated at all. We heard it was gone. We just didn’t want to believe.

Not to worry.

I have a great online helper that will rock your world: SEOBook. You can find the keyword suggestion tool here: http://tools.seobook.com/general/keyword/ and believe me, it gives you way more than Overture ever could. You get total searches. You get searches in Google, searches in Yahoo, and searches at MSN. You also get the Yahoo suggestion tool, a link to WordTracker, if you have an account, and trends and so much that you’ll just have to check it out.

When I’m working on a project, I generally the tool included with my WebCEO professional, but for a quick search or even for some heavy-duty research, SEOBook rocks!
