Have a Very Happy Holiday!

24 December 2009

So, today’s Christmas Eve, and I’m cleaning in preparation for tomorrow. The in-laws will be over, and I always cook a big dinner for Christmas. It’s a big change for me from thinking about marketing, managing the ListBuilding Club, on-page and off-page optimization, what’s new, and what I’ve missed and need to catch up with…

That’s it! I’m going back to my feminine roots. (At least until Monday.)

I haven’t done that for a couple of years now, since my husband retired. He didn’t do it voluntarily. He was in the car business for more than 30 years and all of a sudden, the doors closed. The business dried up, there were no jobs for a guy over 50, and luckily, I had started this Internet marketing thing and was working for Tellman. continue reading »

So, Paul Easton is a very smart SEO, who lives in New Zealand. I met Paul a couple of years ago at a JV Alert Live event, and interviewed him for my teleseminar series. And, I’m on his list. He sends really cool shit and lots of great information. He handles a list as it’s meant to be handled, and I have a great deal of respect for him as a marketer and as an SEO.

Nice guy, too, by the way. :) Learn more about him at

Anyway, today, he sent out an email with a bunch of pretty cool tools, but here’s one you may want. It’s kind of like a Roboform for writers, and if you do a LOT of writing, like I do, it’s worth having.

The software is called “Type Pilot,” and it allows you to create phrases that you type over and over again and it just plugs them in for you when you type in a short keyword. So, for example, http://ListBuilding.com I type like, a LOT. So, I entered it, gave it the short phrase “lbc,” and now, when I type that and hit the space, the URL just appears. It’s sweet!

So, don’t say I never gave you anything. And thank my friend Paul. I already love this tool, and can see I’ll be buying it even before the day is done. Go visit his site. It’s totally worth your time.

PDF Unlocker

30 September 2009

Oh, this is brilliant! Did you ever get a .pdf and find yourself frustrated that you can’t do anything with it?  You can’t copy or paste. Or, maybe it even has a password and you can’t open it at all!

Well… that’s not good for people who sell ebooks and locked the .pdf, so your on your honor there. However, I think that’s a dumb idea and not many people really do that anymore, anyway. But.. you may have some old ebooks that you bought lying around that you forgot the password for, eh?

OK… here’s the software that will fix all that for you: Free PDF Unlocker

Pretty cool little utility for nuthin’ I’m thinking. :)

Firefox Add-On: History Tree

25 September 2009

You know how much I love things that make my life easier, right? Well, there’s a new add-on for Firefox that you’ll have to try. It’s called “History Tree,” and you can get it here: http://normansolomon.org.uk/histTreeHelp/tutorial.html. I think I just fell in love with Norman Solomon, who developed it. (Hi, Norman! Just kidding. Married 36 years now. :) )

So many times I’ve wanted to go back to a page that I hit hours before, and well… did you ever try to wade through all the stuff you do during the day? I must hit a thousand online pages a day at least. It’s impossible!

History tree is awesome! It gives you not only where you’ve been, clearly and succinctly, but it allows you to see your path visually, so that you can see where you came from, where you went, and how to get back to where you want to go. I’m in heaven.

I just installed it and haven’t been to too many places yet, but here’s a screenshot of how it looks:

history_tree

Neat? I think you’ll love it, too.

When you want to use it, you just to to the “Tools” tab in your top navigation bar, and click on “History Tree.” Then, it should be pretty easy to find whatever it is you’re looking for. Can’t wait to try it out for all my meandering on a daily basis. I’ll bet you’re in that boat, too and will be happy with the results that history tree provides. Let me know your thoughts!

Party at the Tellmansion!

31 August 2009

So, I have to apologize for being so quiet for so long. I’ve been traveling for what seems like forever! I just got back from Vermont last night, where the Overcome Everything team was raising a ruckus. It was some of the best fun I’ve had in a long, long time.

On Friday night, we had a barbecue at the Tellmansion with lots of good food, good friends, and it was kind of getting acquainted with the folks we never met face-to-face, and hug and enjoy the people we know but haven’t seen in a while.  I hadn’t seen Brian Edmondson since last June, for example, and it’s always great to see my virtual good friend!

On Saturday, things got even better! We went to a gym where we participated in all of these cool team building activities. For example, the facilitators set out a bunch of pictures on the floor, face down. Each of us were to pick one and not show it to anyone else. Some of us got to have two pictures because there were so many.

Each of us had to describe the picture to the rest of the team, and we had to come up with a sequence of pictures that made sense.  However, it was one of those zoom out sequences, and we nailed it. Wow! It’s much harder than you might think. If someone doesn’t point out even a small detail, it makes a HUGE difference.

But the most fun thing was when they put most of us into harnesses (some folks couldn’t handle the height), the team pulled a rope to raise one of the “harnessees” up about 40 feet (to the top of the gym rafters), and then the person would pull a rip cord, and just go” flying through the air on this really sturdy “swing”!  (It held up to 5K pounds, so we were quite safe.)  Wow… I can’t tell you how big a rush that was! We got some pretty cool video from that, and Danny is working on a montage to show what happened. I can’t wait to post it here. :-)

After a long day of adult “birthday partyesque” games, designed to encourage bonding and teamwork, we crashed in our hotel for a while. Having that much fun is totally exhausting! Ha!

The “team” stuff sounds really boring, right? And I can tell you, I had no idea what would happen that day. I mean, doesn’t it sound corporate and stuffy weird?  Not at all! It’s amazing how much fun stuff like that can be. The company was High 5 Adventure Learning and the facilitators, Jim and Chris were just amazing. I think they could make anything fun.

On Saturday evening, we had a wonderful dinner at Alici’s Bistro, and took over the whole Martini Bar for the evening. Wow… Great food, if you’re ever in Brattleboro, and the folks there couldn’t have been nicer. They put up with us.

So, it was a tremendous weekend, but after all that’s happened over the past few weeks, I’m ready to stay home and get back to biz! Hope you’ll stick around because I have some very cool and helpful info coming your way.

But then, you knew that, right? :)

So, you know that Tellman’s running cross-country, right? He’s doing in a huge way, and in fact, was at a dinner with President Clinton the other night, who indicated that he might run a little ways with our bearded friend.

Things are really heating up! And we’re in the midst of a launch. So, please excuse me for a day or two. I hate to miss my blogging, but I’m just too tired to move.  So, instead… here are a couple of videos to get you smiling!

And…

Give the Kids Some Cash: http://RunTellmanRun.com/donate . I did!

We have a premium level of The ListBuilding Club called “ListBuilding 411,” where members can ask a question each day and one of the Overcome Everything team answers it on video within 24 hours. It’s an awesome service, and I wish it had been available when I was learning. It could have shaved years off my learning curve.

Anyway, today, one of our clients asked how he could get 4 spreadsheets with multiple pages online so that he could collaborate with others. I was amazed that he’d never heard of Google Docs! And then, I’m thinking… Wait.  People know how to search with Google, but most folks don’t really get the power of Google!

Google Docs is a great way to store information online. It not only gives you the ability to get to it anytime you need to as long as you have an Internet connection, it gives you the ability to share with other folks and to keep it all private. Google Docs is great!

Of course, it’s not without limitations and irritations. Like sometimes, it won’t let you paste stuff in where you want it to go, or you can’t export or well… it’s just NOT as adaptable as MS Office applications, but it’s still worth the effort to get in there and try it. Why not? It’s free.

Google has given us a whole bunch of stuff that’s free and very helpful.

Google Calendar can help you plan your schedule.

Google Maps is more accurate than MapQuest, in my opinion, and with Google Earth, we can see our own street or what’s going on in London at 2 a..m. Why not?

Whatever would we do without GMail, and Picasa? Email and photos are all that some people do online, right?

Lest we forget, there’s Google Video and Shopping and blogs at Blogger.  And now, they’re even putting books online for us! There’s Google Alerts, so we can see what people are saying about any topic, Google Translate, and Google for our mobile phones.

But did you know that you can also create 3-D images at Google Sketchup, create your own keyboard shortcuts, let you see You Tube videos or Picassa images right in your Gmail messages, and a whole lot more through Google Labs.

Google is getting to be a very powerful resource (as though it wasn’t powerful enough already). Try some of the “hidden” perks of Google, and you might find a whole new world of stuff to help you or waste your time and not have to pay a single dime. Amazing.

Hey…

Just want to apologize for missing a couple of days’ posts here. Tellman is in town!

So, all the OE South folks have been hanging out and having a great time. Today, we’re going sailing.

Should be fun!

Keep at it while we’re busy, eh? :-) TTY tomorrow!

Writing in a Former Life

28 January 2009

People are always asking me about my books, and since I have to come up with a video for the Overcome Everything channel each week, I decided to show folks my prior life. I did a lot of bleeding from the soul for these. You’d think that an accomplished author would be wealthy and famous…

Not

So, I came online to help sell these books, and now, look at me. Raving SEO, Internet marketing afficionado, and making more money than I ever have in my life. If I can come from an academic background (more or less, I was a banker for 20 years before writing) and be successful at this Internet marketing biz, you can, too.

‘Course, I wouldn’t have done it without Tellman. He was my mentor, which made all the difference. The cool thing is that you can have Tellman as your mentor, too. Just go over and Join The ListBuilding Club. It will set you straight down the path to IM success… I kid you not.

Anyway, check out this video and let me know what you think…

Things I Hate

5 December 2008

So, today has been a frustrating one, and I’m in a pretty testy mood right now.

Want to know what’s on my mind?

OK…

1) I HATE Internet Explorer. All versions. Hate it.

IE is a developer’s nightmare. It’s very quirky, and often won’t recognize what you want to do. For example, my new blog site (http://EasyBlogTricks.com). I have embedded some Camtasia videos into the blog, and they work perfectly on Firefox. No problem!

But when people try to view them in Internet Explorer, nada.

And I have a flaw. Yes, I admit it… a flaw. OK, well, maybe more than one, but this is tech related.

I always forget to check and see how my stuff looks in IE because I figure people should all be using Firefox, anyway.

Kidding.

People have their druthers. I really went kicking and screaming into Firefox from IE, and now, I realize how narrow-sighted I had been. But, people have their faves, and I know that TONS of people still use IE.

So, I’m trying to find a fix for this issue. I’m not much of a programmer. That’s the problem. I mean, if there’s PHP around, I can manipulate it, but writing? No clue. So… that leaves me at the mercy of Google, and trying to find a fix online. So far, bupkiss. I do have PHP for Dummies, so I think I might learn one day–at the Dummy level, anyway. Ha!

2) Power Going Off and On

I’ve had to reboot my computer 7 times this afternoon. Yes, 7! Servers me right for not having an APS, so I’m supposing I need to go out and purchase one tomorrow.

3) Windows Vista

Who does it think it is? I mean, it’s always telling me what I can and can’t do, and I’m sick of it. I turned it off. Stop trying to mother me, Vista. I’m a big girl and I know what and what not to do, really.

OK… I’m finished. I will return you to your regularly scheduled chat with Pat.

Whew! Feels better to get THAT off my chest.

If you have any pet peeves, anything that’s totally pissing you off today, here’s the place to let me know what that is!

Remember, misery loves company.

And I’m not really miserable, just hacked. LOL And totally glad it’s Friday.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
