God, don’t people get it? I mean, they buy this spammy software that tells them they can “advertise” on a bazillion blogs out there at the push of a button. All they have to do is write some inane, generic comment, and send it out.

Those don’t work, people!

They suck.

Blogs have spam filters and I know that every bogus comment I get from these brilliant schemes gets nuked into oblivion. They never make it to my blog. So, stop wasting my time and yours.

And stop tracking back to me from your spammy blogs that you never tend, too. I don’t create MY content for You, you lazy person. Go get your own. Learn to write. Pay a writer. Use videos. Whatever. Just stop trying to create a blog that I and a bunch of other legitimate bloggers have written for you.

If you want to use my content, please write something about it. It doesn’t have to be glowing. You can write that I’m full of it.  At least if you write something that makes sense and then, refer to my blog, I’ll love you for it.  Well, unless your blog is about porn or gambling. I wouldn’t be loving you for that much. But really, all bloggers want are relevent trackbacks and comments. Is that too much to ask?

OK… rant mode off for now.

But seriously, don’t waste your money. You’re more than welcome to comment honestly. I ‘ll give you the link, and it won’t be a “nofollow,” either. My links are leaded, brothers and sistahs! But when you use these crappy tools, you’re just pissing people off… me, for instance.

Stop it!

Oh, and Happy Halloween… Think I’ll be a witch.

No costume necessary. :)

I’ve done some advertising with Google AdWords, but it usually ended up being more expensive than it was worth. Oh sure, I got optins and sales, but they were either break-even or only marginally profitable. I don’t have that “special code,” I’m afraid. It takes a lot of trial and error to make it work really well than I have to spend at this point. I mean, I know I can make it if I focus on it and nothing else. But remember, I work for Tellman. :)

But…

Working for him has its perks.  Well, lots of them actually, not to mention he’s a great guy. (In case you don’t know, he’s running across the country for Homeless Teens and well… in his bare feet. Pretty cool… go donate at http://RunTellmanRun.com. It’s a very worthy cause, and well… bare feet, people!)

Anyway… Tellman got me to go through Frank Kern and his cousin Trey’s “Screw Google” course, and I have to say that it’s great! It’s short enough to run through in a few hours, and the information inside is easy to follow and really spot on. It’s typical Frank Kern style,  of course, and he’s one of the LEAST boring people to watch no matter what he’s doing. He just has that kind of personality that makes you smile. (It’s a no-brainer that he and Trey are cousins, either. They even sound alike. Both of them are good at teaching and keeping things light.)

The course is based on PPC advertising with Yahoo, and I have to tell you that after having worked the AdWords stuff for OE and myself, I find Yahoo to be 1) less anal and 2) far less expensive. My most expensive click to date has been around 12 cents. Plus, I’m getting tons of optins and I don’t have a mega keyword list, either. I have a very select group of keyword phrases that I’ve tested and know work for my & Tellman’s product, Spider Language, which (in case you don’t hang here regularly) is a basic course on SEO. continue reading »

Are you a stats junkie? Well… I don’t have time to be much of one, but I do enjoy looking a good batch of stats and seeing progress, don’t you? Google Analytics has been very cool to me and it’s getting cooler.

There’s now an “Intelligence” segment to your reporting. It will alert you if something out of the ordinary happens at your website. For example, if you have an outrageous number of new visitors one day or if people stay on the page longer than normal, you’ll get an alert. Significant if you’re tracking a new form of traffic or if you want to see how an ad swap did for you, for example. Not earth shattering, but kind of neat.

But a better improvement is the fact that you can now add a whole bunch of new goals to your marketing funnel. You can now add 20 goals as opposed to the old 4, which told you some stuff, but well… twenty can tell you a whole LOT! As long as you have Analytics code on every page, it’s a pretty good indicator of how successful your marketing is overall. continue reading »

Google Labs just came out with a new item called “Social Search.” It will search for items in the social web from people in your Google contact list and include them in any searches you run. I’m not sure how beneficial it will be, but I plan to test it over the next few days and let you know.

This is one of the Google Labs “experiments,” however. It just doesn’t happen automatically. You need to go over to http://GoogleLabs.com and sign up for the experiment, and you can only sign up for one experiment at a time. So, if you’re in another experiment that you’re enjoying, you may not want to stop that to try the social search.

Here’s why I’m wondering if it will be any good: I really like the people on my contact list, but some of them are not really all that interesting in terms of business. They may add something to a social site that doesn’t remotely interest me, while others might really have some cool stuff to add and I really wouldn’t want to miss their pearls of wisdom. And yet, do they post to social sites much? Don’t know.

But I guess I’ll find out.

If you have lots of people on your contact list that are active in social sites and that you want to read, you should probably check this feature of Google out. Otherwise, it’s just another perk that may not cause drooling.

Here’s a video I made for Spider Language. It’s just one of the many videos in this 40-week course. If you want to learn natural SEO from the ground up… even if you have NO experience with search, this is the course for you. But let my video do the talking:

Checking Out WordPress 2.9

23 October 2009

Just when we get used to WordPress 2.8, the developers over at WordPress are already working to release WP 2.9. I think that’s neat-o, but for the casual blog user, it may mean upgrades they don’t want to make and plugins that aren’t compatible. These changes often put normal folks into a tizzy.

But, I’m not normal. I was excited when I saw that they were working on a new version! They made some stellar changes in the past two major upgrades, and so, I can’t wait to see the newest release, though I can’t say when that will happen.

Here are some of the new features coming:

Trash Status: You can move pages and other stuff to a trash bin, much like the recycle before permanently deleting. Interesting, but not killer.

rel=canonical for single pages (the page you get to when you click on the title or your “permalink” page): Cool… Gives the search spiders a clear view of what’s going on.

The ability to select “Allow My Blog to Appear in Search Engines” during installation. Well… who wouldn’t want their blog in the SERPs? Some, I’m guessing, and for those folks this is cool. This will block all your pages from spider view. continue reading »

Hi… So sorry I missed posting yesterday, but I have a very good reason. Kyle Battis, me, and the Overcome Everything team have been working feverishly to get Listbuilding.com all buttoned up, right and proper. The whole tech team–Mike Purvis, Jim Morrison, and especially Victor Grosser, have been kicking ass! And Josh Burns, well… he’s awesome at creating interesting and fun copy. His letter for tonight was killer.

But if you’re not a member of the ListBuilding Club, you probably never got that email. Unfortunate.

But here’s something cool… I’M inviting you!

Yep.

Here’s MY invitation to come to the call at 8 p.m. EST tonight when me & Kyle are going to release some very exciting news. I can’t tell you what just yet because it’s a secret, but if you go to http://ListBuilding.com/classified, you can register for the call.

We’re going to be giving away packages worth $1,000 to 5 lucky people, but you aren’t eligible to win, unless you’re on the call!

So… continue reading »

Here’s a video I made from an article I wrote, which you can find at Ezine Articles:

I love Google Webmaster Tools. Well, to be honest, I’m a real fan of most everything Google does. They’ve given us a wealth of information, web tools, and help that we don’t even have to pay for. How can you NOT love Google? Well… if you’re a webmaster that’s been stung by the Google slap before, you may not love Google with 100% of your Internet heart, but hey… you have to give them credit for definite improvement of the Web overall.

I just recently went into my Webmaster Tools account and found a new feature… Labs! Neat-o, right? That means they’ll be trying new experimental stuff in there periodically and right now, there are two new helpers for you to check out.

One is the “Fetch as Googlebot” feature that will retrieve any page of your website and allow you to see it the way Google’s spider does. The benefit to you is that if you’re not seeing your keywords high enough or if the page looks funky or just plain isn’t appearing, you have some work to do. If Google’s spiders can’t see  your site properly, no other search bots will see it properly, either.

The other feature is the “Malware Details” checker. If your website has malware on it, you may not even know, but now, Google will tell you. Smart! I’d go back and check this periodically, just because.

Thanks, Google! You really kick major Internet ass.
