OVBlogger: Blogging and SEO

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

OK… You guys happy now? I changed my theme. :-)

I kind of like this new one, and don’t plan any changes for a least oh… the next quarter at least. Let me know what you think… Especially those of you who were hating the last one. You’re my review crew!

So, got home today from jvAlert, and I have to tell you that the last day was totally rockin’.

I was there for Simon Leung. Whoa. The guy knows the backroads of Google because he used to work for them. There are things he can’t tell you because he signed a non-disclosure agreement, but what he can tell you and told us was invaluable.

Believe this…

Simon says (no pun intended) that you should have a different landing page optimized for EACH keyword that you have in AdWords. Whoa. He even said it’s a lot more work, but that’s Google. He gave us about 12 strategies about what Google wants to see. Since I run the AdWords campaigns for Overcome Everything, it was a pretty cool perspective. I think I’m going to study Simon quite a bit more.

“Million Dollar Mike” Morgan was up next, and I just think the world of him. He’s been great to me in the past and I can’t wait until the call on the 19th. He gave some pretty awesome copywriting pointers and made everyone smile. Mike just rocks, and I finally got to meet him in person. kewl

I got a lot more than just information at jvAlert, folks, with the most valuable being a whole new bunch of friends.

The first day, I made a friend from Slovakia named Lucia, who is just starting out. (You’ll be hearing from her; I have no doubt. ) Lots of newcomers like Kevin Puls, Bonnie Cramner, and Steve Leadbetter. Lots of people coming on in some pretty interesting niches. Keep a lookout.

And totally lookout for Carrie Wilkerson. She’s a hoot! And a very smart business lady, who walks around without her shoes on. She runs… what else? TheBarefootExecutive.com I really enjoyed spending just the little time with her that I could.

And there were my old friends, Brian Edmondson, who introduced me to Jason James and other friends of his; Cyndi Parker of TrafficMOM.com and Birgit Ratz Cheung and her husband Eugene. All tops. Oh, and how could I forget, my old friend Charles Burleigh? I’m was so glad to see him out and about, meeting folks and having fun. Of course, Mike Paetzold was there, ribbing me about my old theme (Happy now, Mike?) and Steve Roye, who never fails to make me laugh harder than I should. Har. And Ross Goldberg and Eric Stafford were there, too.

I also made new friends Willie Crawford, who I was fortunate enough to sit beside at dinner the other night; Alan Bechtold, Laurie Steffen and Jeff Wark, and even met Bob the Teacher.

But the coolest thing was when someone came up to me and told me that they were on my list and asked what I was working on. I totally enjoyed meeting Bonnie and having a long chat with her.

And another long chat with Deremiah, a truly incredible man. In an world with an overwhelimgly high percentage of “me firsters,” this guy is “you first.” He never fails to ask what he can do for you, and that’s pretty cool. He’s gaining lots of respect by this attitude in the IM world, and there’s no doubt in my mind that he WILL go far. And sing? The man sings better than Stevie Wonder. We got to hear a really great Deremiah version of Happy Birthday at dinner on Saturday. Nice.

Ken McArthur is wonderful, of course, and everyone loves him. What’s not to love?

But the whole weekend, the question I kept hearing was, “What’s with Tellman’s hair?” LOL I told him we love him both ways–with or without.

So, that’s about it. jvAlert totally rocks the block, I’m telling you.

So, this is my week for the double smackdown.

I type that in all jest, as I know folks are offering some valid criticism and I totally welcome that. So…

Now, it’s my theme. Apparently people hate it. Sigh.

Not only that, but it’s a total disconnect for my target audience. My site Blogging4Boomers and I have a “young” theme. Mike Paetzold told me that and I told him, “Ah well…” Not that I didn’t take his comments into consideration because I respect him totally. And I really did consider it and realized he was right, but I have an affinity for this color blue. My mom used to say that I loved any color as long as it was blue. Un-huh

And like, here’s me… In my brain, I am a kid. That’s kind of why I was able to write for kids. I mean, I listen to music my 18-year-old daugther recommends and love it. I often have Fallout Boy, Dido, or even a Rob Zombie tune playing while I work.  Oh yeah, we totally relate and it’s probably why I can work with people young enough to be my kids and have a great time doing it.

Anyway, Alex, who commented on my last post, found me, introduced himself and agreed that my theme sucked. Of course, he was totally sweet about it (and told me that Mike put him up to it, but well… Who didn’t know that?) So, that was the killer. Three people who hate my theme? It’s gone.

<sigh> When I get home, a new theme will be forthcoming.

Damn.

Love that blue ball.

I may try to keep that and alter the code to make the background, at least the text container lighter.  But I don’t see that working for the design.

Anyway…

Today was a great day at the conference. It started out with Alan Bechtold, of the Franklin Guild and so much else, showing us his new book and a clip of a movie that will go with it. Wow! Very cool. I loved it. It’s like Bill Nye the Science Guy meets Internet marketing and I for one, am anxious to see the finished product. I’m now an official member of The Franklin Guild for the next year. Whoo-hoo to that.

Then, Ken McArthur spoke about, what else? Making an Impact. He totally rocks and if I can pick a handful of people who have made a difference in my life, Ken would be one of them.

After lunch, we had Yanik Silver. I’ve never seen him speak in person before, and it was a real treat. I knew he was brilliant, but he’s funny and really enjoyable to watch and listen to. He gave us the great motivators for copywriting. Pretty sweet to see his take on everything.

Then, Jeff Johnson. I never heard him speak, either, and I’m like, loving the SEO stuff. Most of it, I already knew, but there are a couple of twists that he teaches that will make a total difference. Can’t wait to try some of his ideas. Awesome

The whole conference is, as always, totally awesome.

I don’t think I’ll be going to Long Beach, but I’ll definitely be in Orlando in February or whenever Ken decides to do it again there. These are just way too much fun. And, you get to meet tons of people you’d never have access to, sitting behind a computer monitor.

Get social! This stuff isn’t extravagance. It’s an investment in your future.

But it’s OK to have fun, too. :-)

Do you know Ken McArthur?

I feel very lucky because I do know him.

Ken is a friend who is kind and caring. He totally understands what it takes to make an impact with people because he makes everyone he touches feel special.

His JVAlert Seminar is like a big family gathering. I went to my first one in February, and I have all my plans finalized for attending another next month.

You may wonder why I’d spend the money to do that so soon, and if you are, realize how very, very important it is to make friends-not just on Facebook or MySpace, but in person. Every single person at the last JVAlert became my friend.

We created a product together. We helped a woman save her house. And Ken makes all of that happen. I’ve known him for a long time now, but meeting him in person and feeling his true desire to make an impact on other people’s lives is overwhelming…

So, here’s the deal…

I want you to go over to Impact Factor and buy the book. This is not just something you may want to do, it’s something important that you HAVE to do, for yourself and your business.

Just go and see how many cool people Ken worked with to get this book  moving. And, if you’re a member of Blogging4Boomers, go over there and listen to my call with Ken. You can totally hear his commitment
in his voice. If you’re not a member, go opt in. It’s free to listen to the calls, at least for now. I’ll be taking them down soon. So…

If you want to be part of that and learn what Ken and all the people in his book know about making an Impact, I encourage you to go right now to:

Being part of Ken’s huge family is a very cool place to be. My copy just arrived a few days ago. I can’t wait to dig in and learn all the secrets of making an impact. It’s something I want to do, too.

Hey,

Just a heads up. Things are really gearing up. Tonight, I have for you one of the nicest guys on the Internet.

In case you don’t know who that is…

He started Affiliate Showcase and built it into the huge affiliate marketing site that it is today.

He started JVAlert, a place where marketers could find other marketers and make great deals.

He created a family with JVAlertLive.

And I was lucky enough to have been part of it earlier this month. You know who I’m talking about, of course. It’s Ken McArthur.

So, what’s Ken have to do with blogging?

Ken doesn’t email his list much, you see. I mean, he does, but instead of trying to promote from his email, he sends his list to his blog, where you can read of Ken’s recent adventures and interesting stuff surrounding his new book and website The Impact Factor.

So, that’s what we’ll be talking about tonight… How you can create an impenetrable bond with your audience using a blog.

See you at 8?

EVENT: Ken McArthur on Affiliate Marketing
DATE & TIME: Tuesday, February 26th at 8:00pm Eastern

Whoa…

Sorry I’ve been so behind on letting you in on the results of that product that me and 71 other Internet marketers did at the JVAlertLive seminar in Orlando, FL. It rocked!

I never had so much fun creating a product, which is usually like bleeding from the soul. There’s so much planning and preparation and build up and usually by the time the product is finished, you’re exhausted and too emotionally beat up to sell it. But you do, anyway. :-)

But this was a trip. We all had to write one great tip about joint venturing, a testimonial for the product, and provide a bonus. People like Eric Stafford (The Faster Webmaster), Ross Goldberg, Stuart Tan, Paul Easton, Cindy Parker, Mike Paetzold, Steve Roye, Andy Duncan, and on and on where there, too, so there were some pretty awesome tips. So, what resulted was a really cool book about JVs and about $5,000 in products. Joel Comm got on the video, while suffering from the flu, made a video headline for the page, and we were off and running.

Joel actually left early, which was a bummer. I really wanted to meet him and thank him for some stuff he sent me last year via Tellman, but he got sick, and so Eric Holmlund and Dan Nickerson led us through this exercise, and we were all scurrying to get stuff typed and emailed to Eric so he could create the .pdf and it was inSANE!!!

The copywriting team came up with a killer headline. I typed like the wind with about 7 other typists (well, Paul Easton had to read the testimonials to me, LOL), and we all had a great time. We even made money! And to think this happened in just 90 minutes. Very cool

But that wasn’t the coolest thing about JVAlertLive. There were at least 10 cool things and people: Ken McArthur, of course, is a gracious and wonderful host and he attfacted presenters like Dave Lakhani, Brandon Bouchard, Christine Comaford-Lynch, Kevin Nations, and Jermaine Griggs. I know I missed someone. Oh, yeah… Jaime Luchuck and the other cast members from The Next Internet Millionaire. Good people.

Christine is going to be part of my teleseminar series, which is awesome! I’m very excited because she’s just awesome. I hope you’ll register for the calls at Blogging4Boomers.com . You don’t have to be a Boomer. I am, and just thought it was a cool domain so I bought it. But what I’d like to do is to help Baby Boomers (like me) create their retirement from online income. (A lot of us are worried about that.)

The site’s doing great, actually. Lots of people are coming in every day. We’ve had about 2,000 people register in just the first couple of days, and thre will only be phone lines for 200, though you can attend on the Web.

But, if you want to be on the first call–register. It will be Tuesday evening (Feb. 19th) and with Mike Paetzold, an old friend (whom I just met at the seminar, after 4 years of knowing him), who will teach you tons of stuff about having a WordPress blog. He’s just awesome and I know you’ll learn a LOT.

I’m really looking forward to having you on the calls.

So, here I am sitting in a hotel in Orlando at the JVAlertLive conference. Lemme tell ya, if you haven’t been, you’re really missing something special. You know I’ve written about Ken McArthur before and I think he’s one of the nicest guys going. Well, that’s how his seminars are. It’s just a great group of folks and I’m learning, making deals, and having an incredible time.

The seminars started yesterday, actually. First Ken did a demonstration of marketing, which was pretty cool. You’ll have to see it. I can’t explain, but it involved some books. But he’s not like a teacher, he’s more like a friend. You don’t feel taught or sold, ever. You’re just drawn in by his affability and this feeling of his genuine want to help people. It’s really a cool way to be. It’s the only way to be, really, and that’s why Ken is so successful.

Then, Dave Lakhani started. Whoa. I had never heard his story before, which means I probably have my head in the sand, but this is one very powerful dude. I mean, you’re almost afraid not to do what he tells you because he’s just so freakin’ powerful. He just knows how to persuade people to do things. I swear, I’ve been ready to pop out the credit card for every damned offer at the back of the room. Next time. After my teleseminar series, eh?

And then, Joel Comm was here with The Next Internet Millionaire cast. Joel was coming down with something and couldn’t stay, which totally sucked, but hopefully he’s feeling better quickly. I’m disappointed that I didn’t even get to shake his hand. I don’t know him at all, but he has sent me some stuff via Tellman, and I just wanted to at least thank him and say hello.

Well, then came Brendon Burchard. Whoa. Let me tell you… I have never even heard of this guy before (and again, probably because I have my head up… well, you get the idea), but whoa, whoa, and triple whoa. What he does is so INCREDIBLY powerful that I’m dying to go to his seminar in San Francisco in June. Really. He deals with non-profits and Fortune 500 companies. I mean, this isn’t Internet marketing solely. He uses the Internet, but he shows you how he gets these big entities to pay for everything he wants to do. And in this seminar, he shows you exactly how he does it. I mean to say, it’s just brilliant! No, genius. Definitely genius. And he’s like 32 years old or something.

Working with all these young people only serves to remind me that I’ve been wasting so much time! Argh!

I can go on and on and on, and I’ll probably blog more tomorrow, but if you haven’t come to JVAlertLive, you’re missing something very cool.

Very cool. Save your pennies. Hock your jewelry. Whatever you have to do… Get to the next JVAlertLive. It’s my first, and I’m not bound to miss many more, I can tell you.

Oh, and how about Christine Comaford Lynch for my teleseminar series? Yes. I’ll tell you more about that tomorrow or when I get home. Haven’t had much time since I got here, but WOW! I’m jazzed. I’ve met a ton of very cool and fun people, too.

Can you tell? :-)

Yep. I’m hooked. Hear that, Ken? Ha!

Well, sort of.

I got Launch Formula Marketing for my membership site. $250. Easy to use, right?

Totally wrong.

It’s probably mostly my fault because I’m not a PHP programmer. I understand it ever so slightly and can do things like alter my blog template, for example.

But I can’t do anything with my membership site.

It’s working for members, which is what my main concern is. They’re great, and they make me feel good about what I’m doing almost every day. I have the best members in the universe. Really. They rock!

But…

I’m setting up this fabu teleseminar series. It’s got people like:

Tellman Knudson (of course) of The List Building Blog

Brian Edmondson (why definitely) from Blog with Brian He’s got an awesome customization. I’m jealous.

Mike Paetzold (a real WP kinda guy) from Mike Paetzold Recommends

Reed Floren, who’s amazing on Facebook. His JV group is really active and once I’m settled in with this membership site stuff, I’ll be getting in on some really great JVs, just from being a member.

Ken McArthur, who uses his JVAlert blog for some amazing bonding with his audience. JVAlertLive starts tomorrow!

Andy Duncan of Netslingers.com, who uses his blog for a niche audience.

Stephen Pierce–don’t you just wait for his dtAlpha Talkback emails each week? I know I do. I love to listen to this man talk. He’s very generous with his information and the way he gives it to you is totally charming and inspiring.

Ted Demopolous, who wrote Blogging for Business, and a few more books on the topic. Smart and very nice guy.

And lest I forget, one of my favorite people–Mike Morgan, or “Million Dollar” Mike Morgan. His copywriting skills are so STRONG that his sales letters have already pulled in a million bucks in a day. Wish I could afford him. :-)

And there’s going to be a cool mystery guest, too.

So you can see why I’m desperate to get this working. I just contacted a programmer. In my heart of hearts, I hope he can fix this.

Or, I’m going insane.

Want to come?

Go sign up for the series at http://blogging4boomers.com It’s free!

And then, check out the membership site. I have tons of great stuff inside and add more every month. You don’t have to be a Boomer, but we’re the ones coming online, trying to eke out just a little extra to survive.

I hear you! I feel your pain! I’m a Boomer, too!
